Preparation for Drama School Auditions
Auditions are always nerve-wracking but inevitably character-building experiences.
Here’s a truth that can shorten the hours you need to hire Jo for!
Drama schools do not want perfectly directed or tutored auditionees: they want auditionees who can show evidence that they have prepared and thought about their pieces themselves, with the minimum guidance! They want to teach you using their own techniques, not someone else’s and they are therefore interested in you as, essentially, rough material.
Above all, they do not want a stagey and artificial interpretation of your audition pieces that has been ‘bolted’ on to you by a freelance tutor without any involvement from you!
Jo therefore approaches your audition preparation working WITH you to find the best contrasting pieces for your auditions, (very often, drama schools will give you their own choices of Classical speeches, and you choose your own contrasting contemporary speech, which Jo can help with).
Jo assists auditionees of all ages to find a custom-made, highly personal route through – and interpretation of – their speeches, offering accessible and perfectly pitched advice which will help you to maximise your intensity and veracity, (truthfulness) on stage.
She will also give you, should you request it, an honest appraisal of your potential: this will save you much heartache and no small expenditure in the long run. It is not, however, her business to put you off your drama trail, but she can add a little realism to your plans, if you can face it.
